You can now connect an AI assistant to your XgenPlus mailbox. We built an MCP server for it, it is free on every paid XgenPlus plan, and nothing is switched on until you create an agent password yourself. Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Claude Desktop and n8n work with it today.
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use tools in another system. Ours gives the assistant 36 tools for your own mailbox: list, search and read mail, mark and move it, save drafts, reply, forward and send, and look at your contacts, calendar and tasks. The assistant does the reading and the typing. You decide what it is allowed to do.
What can an AI assistant do with my business email?
These are requests from our own setup guide, and each one works as written once the right permission is on:
- Morning briefing: "What needs my attention today? Unread mail, today's meetings and pending invitations."
- Inbox triage: "Star anything from clients, mark newsletters as read and move vendor mail to my Vendors folder."
- Draft replies: "Draft polite replies to the three unanswered client emails. Don't send; I'll review them in webmail."
- Find a document: "Find last March's invoice from Acme and tell me the total."
- Follow-ups: "Which emails I sent last week haven't had a reply?"
- Scheduling: "When am I free for an hour on Thursday? Draft an email offering two slots."
Reading and searching need only the read permissions. Moving and marking mail, saving drafts, and sending are separate permissions, so a briefing assistant never gets the ability to send.
How do I connect it?
- In XgenPlus webmail, open Settings › Security › AI Agents (MCP) and click Create agent password.
- Tick the permissions you want this assistant to have and copy the token.
- Add the server to your assistant, using
https://mcp.xgenplus.com/mcpand your token. The Help Center has a guide for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code and n8n or your own code. - Ask it to call
get_mailbox_profile, which needs no permission, to check the connection. Then ask what unread mail you have today.
The full walkthrough is in Use XgenPlus Mail with AI assistants (MCP).
Does it work with ChatGPT and claude.ai?
Not yet. ChatGPT connectors and the claude.ai web app sign in with OAuth, and our server uses the agent password for now. Claude Desktop works through a small bridge, and the other tools above work without one. We will say so here and in the Help Center when OAuth sign-in is added.
What does it cost?
Nothing extra. MCP is included on every paid XgenPlus plan, with no add-on and no charge per call. A fair-use policy caps the number of calls each mailbox can make, so one runaway automation cannot slow the mail server down for other customers. Normal use of an assistant stays well inside it. Your plan price stays exactly as it was.
How is it kept safe?
Giving software access to your mail deserves a careful answer, so these are the controls that are built in:
- The agent password is separate from your mailbox password. You can pause or delete it in webmail at any time.
- An assistant can reach only your own mailbox, and it never has admin rights.
- Nothing is deleted for good. A delete moves mail to Trash, and only if you turned that permission on.
- A send that looks risky, such as the first mail to an outside address or an attachment leaving your domain, is saved as a draft for you to check. Mail sent by an assistant carries a signed header that says so.
- We log which tool was used, when, from which address and whether it worked. We do not log subjects, message bodies or attachments, and the log is kept for 60 days.
There is one thing we cannot control. Mail your assistant reads goes to that assistant and its AI provider, under the provider's terms. XgenPlus does not send your mail to any AI provider and does not run AI on it. Some provider plans allow training on what you send them, so read those terms before you connect a work mailbox. Domain admins can see in the admin console which users have created agent passwords.
How does this compare with Gmail, Outlook, Fastmail and Zoho?
We checked each provider's own documentation on 31 October 2026. This area moves quickly, so check again before you decide.
| Provider | Status | Sending | Cost and sign-in |
|---|---|---|---|
| XgenPlus | Live | Yes, optional permission, risky sends held as drafts | Free on every paid plan. Agent password sign-in, OAuth not yet. |
| Gmail | Developer Preview | Drafts only, no send tool listed | Needs the Developer Preview Program, a Google Cloud project and OAuth setup. The page states no price. |
| Fastmail | Live | Yes, as a separate access level | OAuth sign-in. The help page states no price. No attachments. |
| Zoho | Live | Not stated for Mail | Listed at no extra cost for Zoho users, within existing API limits. Mail is on the supported list. |
| Outlook | Preview | Yes | Microsoft calls the app-specific mail tools backward compatibility and points new projects to Work IQ MCP. Check Microsoft for current licensing. |
Fastmail and Google sign in with OAuth, which we do not have yet. Where we are ahead is that it is live, it includes sending with guard rails, and there is no separate bill.
Where to start
Pick one low-risk job, such as the morning briefing, and give the assistant read permissions only. Add drafts once you trust what it writes, and leave sending off until you have watched it for a week. The privacy and security page explains every limit in plain words, and the Help Center has the rest of the guides.
